On Wednesday morning, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Phung Tan Viet, met with the Project Director of the “Integrated Resource Management Asian Cities : the Urban Nexus”, Ms Ruth Erlbeck.

Under the Nexus project, the German Society for International Cooperation, which belongs to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation, will introduce innovative engineering technologies to 10 Asian cities, including Da Nang.  The aim is to help these cities ensure the sustainable development of water sources, energy, food security and urban agriculture.

On 25 November 2013, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the city authorities and the project’s manager.  Under the agreement, the two sides will implement the “Vacuum Waste Water Collection, Wastewater Treatment (using Biogas Production Technology) and the Use of Supportive Products (Irrigation Water and Fertiliser from the Biogas Factories) for the Urban Agriculture” programme.  The Nexus project will give technical assistance to the city to help it implement this programme effectively.

Addressing the meeting, Project Director Erlbeck said that Nexus is expecting to hold a regional workshop on the project in Da Nang in June.

For his part, Vice Chairman Viet vowed that the local authorities would facilitate the on-schedule effective implementation of the Nexus project in the city.  He also urged the project’s consultancy units to make plans for their implementation costs as soon as possible.
