About 65 billion VND to deal with flooding problems
The Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, chaired a meeting on Wednesday to discuss effective ways to deal with drainage problems at locations near Thanh Khe District’s Thac Gian Lake and in alley 111/37 in Hai Chau District’s Hoa Cuong Nam Ward. The intention is to sort out flooding problems in advance of the rainy season.
In recent years, areas near the Thac Gian Lake have been flooded to a depth of 0.3m on average. In attempting to solve this problem, some solutions have been proposed. A focus will be on renovating all the sluice gates of the Thac Gian Lake in order to ensure better drainage and regulate the lake’s water discharge. Special attention will be paid to upgrading an aqueduct linking the lake with the one in 29 March Park, and building a new about 270m long drain from the park’s lake. An intersection of drains on Ham Nghi and in Tam Thuan Ward will be upgraded, and the embankment of the Thac Gian Lake will be dredged to 0.5m, and its bed to 1m.

The work will be divided into two stages. The first will focus on upgrading the aqueduct, which should cost around 1.3 billion VND with work scheduled to be implemented this year. The remaining work is expected to be carried out during the 2015 - 2016 period at an estimated cost of 63.4 billion VND.
