ADB to help city enhance disaster risk management
On Tuesday afternoon, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, Mr Phung Tan Viet, played host to a delegation of experts in disaster risk management from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The host and his guests discussed technical assistance for the project entitled “Addressing Disaster Risk through Improved Indicators and Land Use Management”.
The 700,000 USD project aims to strengthen access to tools and guidance on risk-sensitive land use planning and development, leading to a reduction in urban disaster risk in developing countries worldwide. It is expected to be completed in December.

The leader of the visiting delegation, Mr Arghya Sinha Roy, said that the project will be implemented in Viet Nam, the Philippines, Nepal and China because these countries are at high risk of natural disasters and climate change. In Viet Nam, the project will be deployed in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.
The project will contribute towards the development of a toolkit for participating governments to use in planning and implementing comprehensive disaster risk management and adaptation measures.
In addition, regional workshops, which are organised during the implementation of the project, will create the opportunity for the participating countries to learn and exchange valuable experience in disaster risk management.
