On Wednesday, representatives from Da Nang’s relevant agencies and the Museum of Da Nang discussed ways to solve issues which are affecting the Dien Hai Citadel as a result of the construction of the new Administration Centre.

The sidewalks for visitors to this relic site, which are 1m away from the reconstructed walls of the citadel, will remain unchanged.  Grass will be planted on an area which is 3m from the sidewalks to improve the site’s aesthetics.  In addition, fences will be built around the citadel’s more-than-a-century-old magnificent banyan tree.  The drilled piers of an underground parking area on the southern side of the new Administration Centre will be moved 4.5m away.

On Monday, the Director of the Museum of Da Nang, Mr Ha Phuoc Mai, found the project’s construction teams dredging some areas on the western approaches to the citadel, which could cause landslides and kill the banyan tree.  The museum’s managers asked the city’s Management Board for Construction Projects to halt the construction of the underground parking area and wait for instructions from the local authorities.
