Museum of Da Nang in need of repair
The over 3,000m2, three-storey Museum of Da Nang now houses more than 2,500 photos and artifacts. More than 1,900 of these objects are original and have been collected from Da Nang and neighbouring areas during the period since national reunification in 1975. Many are on public display for the first time. Last year, the museum welcomed about 36,314 visitors, 28,234 of whom were foreigners.
However, since it was completed 5 years ago, the museum is now in need of serious repair. In particular, rainwater penetration has been found on the ceiling of the 3rd floor. This is where the cultural features of the minority ethnic groups in Da Nang, and the central region as a whole, are displayed and the artifacts have been removed to prevent water damage.

Also on the 3rd floor, a library and a meeting room for ethnographical experts has been emptied. Many floor tiles have come up, and rainwater has penetrated through the walls causing some paintwork to flake off. Flooding has also occurred in the museum’s basement. Moreover, the museum has no ventilation system which makes it very hot on summer days. These matters have negatively affected the museum’s aesthetics.
Under the city’s plan for 2014 and the following years, funding for local cultural sites including museum of Da Nang will be increased by 50% to deal with the repairs needed. It is hoped that the museum will be repaired very soon.
