The Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital will work with the International Paediatric Specialist Alliance for the Children of Viet Nam and the non-profit organisation IVUmed, which is based in Utah, USA.  The programme aims to carry out surgery on around 35 children per year who suffer from urinary and genital malformities.  This annual programme will benefit not only children from Da Nang, but from elsewhere in the central region.

This year’s programme will involve 20 children having their surgery between 11 and 14 March, and the remaining 15 children from 26 to 28 March.

All of the children were given free medical examinations.  They mainly have genital malformities and congenital abnormalities of the kidney and urinary tract.  Some of them had previously undergone many operations, but no improvement has been seen.  About 4 of these children are from ethnic minority groups.
