Younger generation key to building a liveable city

During his meeting on Wednesday morning with 83 representatives of Da Nang’s Youth Union, the municipal Party Secretary, Mr Tran Tho, stressed the need for local authorities and residents to make even more effort to help the city reach its target of becoming a liveable city.  A focus should be on reducing the number of drug addicts, children dropping out of schools, itinerant beggars, and poor families.

Secretary Tho said that the city’s average per capita income is 2,600 USD per year, 60% above the national average.  The city, however, has yet to make it into the list of the world’s top cities with fairly good living standards, he added.  In addition, 818 local social policy beneficiaries’ houses are severely deteriorated, and local residents have not yet become fully aware of environment protection measures.  The city leader emphasised that the younger generation of locals, therefore, would play a vital role in building Da Nang into a liveable city in the future.

The past 15 years have seen numerous fruitful results in attracting and training high-quality human resources for the city.  In particular, over 800 of 1,000 local students, who had studied at overseas educational institutes, are now working at city-based agencies and departments.  The city’s authorities always create very favourable conditions for them to study and work.
