Da Nang Women's Hospital celebrates 5th birthday

DA NANG Today
Published: May 19, 2014

The Da Nang Women’s Hospital celebrates its 5th birthday today with an event organised by the city’s Association for Supporting Poor and Disadvantaged Women and Children.

The establishment of the Women’s Hospital came from an idea from the current Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee and Chairman of the city’s Association for Supporting Poor and Disadvantaged Women and Children, Mr Nguyen Ba Thanh.  He thought that the city needed to build an obstetrics and gynaecology hospital to provide medical treatment for local poor and very poor women with life-threatening diseases.  The money to build the hospital was raised from many generous organisations and individuals, including 24 billion VND from local women.  In particular, the VinaCapital Foundation donated 1 billion USD for the first construction phase.

Addressing the event, Mr Thanh spoke highly of the great efforts made by the hospital’s medical workers to overcome their initial difficulties and confirm the hospital’s position in the city, as well as win the trust of local residents.  He also stressed the need for the hospital to build a long-term strategy for its sustainable development in the future.  He added that he hoped the hospital will be upgraded into a more modern and spacious facility to meet the increasing demand for local health care services over the coming 5 years.  To mark the occasion, Mr Thanh presented 1 million VND to each of the hospital’s staff members to encourage them to make more contributions to their hospital.

Over its 5 years of operation, the hospital has provided cancer screening for nearly 8,866 women, 2,573 of whom came from poor families.  Thanks to this, 245 patients were diagnosed with cancer, and they then received medical treatment at the hospital.  Local poor and very poor women have also benefited from the hospital’s fee exemptions or reductions, valued at over 5 billion VND in total.

Thanks to all this effort, the hospital has become a trusted facility where local poor women can access modern medical services which meet international standards.
