Le Do Cinema in need of upgrade
The Le Do Cinema at 46 Tran Phu Street is now the only State-run movie theatre in Da Nang. However, this technologically backward cinema has only been upgraded once, over 20 years ago.
There are only 2 movie rooms in this cinema, one which accommodates 400 movie-goers whilst the other has a capacity of 98. As a result, it cannot offer a wide selection of films to local cinema-goers or meet the increasing local demand for this kind of entertainment. In addition, the cinema’s movie equipment is totally outdated in contrast to the advanced machines used in other local movie theatres. The cinema has 2 35mm celluloid film projectors which were produced in 1997 and 2001. In the current context of the modern film industry, this kind of projector is likely to go out of use. To satisfy the demands of its customers, the cinema has to hire high-definition (HD) technology equipment from local private movie theatres. Also, there are still 2-person seats in the cinema instead of the single seats at the other local venues. The cinema has poor air conditioning and a wet and damp interior.
The Le Do Cinema |
Following recent approval from the city’s authorities, the Le Do Cinema will soon be upgraded at an estimated cost of 4 billion VND. The upgrade will include purchasing HD projectors, redecorating the front of the cinema, improving the interior decorations, and upgrading the air conditioning system and other downgraded items.
In addition to this public cinema, Da Nang now has 3 private ones - Cinezen at 82 Tran Phu Street, CGV Cinema at 255 - 257 Hung Vuong Street, and the Lotte Cinema in Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, Hai Chau District.
