On Monday afternoon, representatives from the Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper handed bank savings books, worth 490 million VND in total, to 20 of Da Nang’s poor families of fisheries surveillance members who are implementing their law enforcement missions in the Hoang Sa waters.  Three families each received a savings book valued at 50 million VND, whilst the remaining 17 were given ones worth 20 million VND each.

The donated money came from readers of the newspaper nationwide under its “Joining Hands to Protect Viet Nam’s Sovereignty in the East Sea” programme, which was launched on 10 May.

At the event, leaders of the Fisheries Surveillance Team No 3 at Da Nang’s Fisheries Surveillance Agency Zone 2 expressed their deep gratitude to the donors for sharing difficulties with the fisheries surveillance members who are on duty at sea to safeguard the country’s sacred sovereignty over its territorial waters and islands.
