More than 2 years ago, a group of 40 Agent Orange (AO)-affected people from Da Nang went to the Military Hospital 103 in Ha Noi for a free month of dioxin detoxification.  However, local residents who have been exposed to AO can now receive treatment at the Da Nang Detoxification and Rehabilitation Centre on Nguyen Van Hue Street in Thanh Khe District.  Over 108,000 USD of the total construction cost of the centre was funded by the Harris Freeman Foundation.

After over 3 months of operation, the centre has provided dioxin detoxification for 32 local AO children and other people affected by the wartime toxic chemical.  All of them said that their health has improved considerably.  Apart from AO victims, the centre also gives treatment to those who want to remove other toxins and hazardous chemicals from their bodies.

The cost of the dioxin detoxification is 7 million VND per person, which is too much for poor victims.  Therefore, the centre is offering treatment cost reductions for local residents.  In particular, very poor AO victims receive free dioxin detoxification.  Meanwhile, the centre will reduce the treatment costs by 50% for people from families near the city’s poverty threshold, and 30% for other patients.
