Over 2.7 billion VND was raised at the “Joining Hands to Relieve the Pain of Agent Orange (AO) Victims” event which was held at Da Nang’s Trung Vuong Theatre on Saturday morning.  The donations came from domestic and foreign organisations and individuals.

The event was jointly organised by the Da Nang Newspaper, the municipal Association of AO Victims, the Party Committee of the city’s State-run Agency Bloc, the Department of Education and Training, the municipal Women’s Union, and the city’s branch of Viet Nam Television.

Over its 10 years of operation, the municipal Association of AO Victims has raised funds to build 2 shelters for AO-affected children and a detoxification and rehabilitation centre for AO/dioxin victims.  This centre is the first of its kind in the central region, and the third in Viet Nam.  The treatment involves participants being prescribed high content vitamins and taking strenuous exercise to excrete sweat.  They then enter a sauna to perspire profusely, and the toxins are released from their bodies.
