Efforts to help the deaf integrate into society

Published: July 24, 2014

Between 2011 and 2014, the Da Nang Club for the Deaf provided training courses every month for its members.  They were courses on sign and written languages every week on Fridays.  The club also encouraged its members to take part in activities which were launched by the local authorities and organisations.

Over the past 4 years, the club has also coordinated with the city’s businesses, vocational training centres and schools to organise courses on cocktail mixing techniques, IT technicians, and LED installation for its members.  The purpose was to help the club’s members feel more confident to integrate into society.

In addition, the club raised over 13 million VND from the city’s generous donors and businesses to help its members.  Most notably, 5 of the club’s members have been able to access 12 month loans of 5 million VND each at zero interest rate.  The loans were given by the revolving fund of the city’s Association of Disabled People.

From now until 2017, the club will continue its efforts to appeal for more support from the community and the international non-government organisations to help its members, and local deaf people as a whole.
