On Sunday, 53-year-old Cao Van Manh from Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang, attempted suicide by drinking a plant protection product after killing his partner, 52-year-old Mai Thi Cuc from Lien Chieu District.  The incident took place in alley 166/34 on Nguyen Luong Bang Street at 7.30am.

The man arrived by motorbike at Mrs Cuc’s house while she was washing dishes at a well behind her house.  After a few minutes of conversation between Manh and his partner, he suddenly produced a knife and stabbed Cuc in her back.  Then, he tried to kill himself by drinking a plant protection product.

They both were rushed to hospital by local residents. The woman died on the same day despite receiving treatment immediately, whilst Mr Manh is now in a critical condition.

Witnesses said that Mrs Cuc’s husband had died 4 years ago, and she is living with her 3 sons.  She and Mr Manh have had an affair over recent years. 

The case is now under investigation.
