Drug precursor seized
Customs officers at Da Nang International Airport said on Wednesday that they had found and seized over 4 kilos of ephedrine, a material used to make methamphetamine.
About 10.30am on 11 August, a team checking parcels at the Postal Transport and Distribution Centre found a suspicious package which had been declared as jaggery. The 2.1kg package contained 4 round packets of a grey solid, and it was being sent by a person in Da Nang to a receiver in Australia.

The team members decided to temporarily seize the package and sent samples of the substance to the Da Nang Sub-Institute of Crime Science for testing. The test results later showed that the samples were ephedrine, a drug precursor.
A previous case had occurred at 8.30am on 4 August when the centre’s employees discovered about 2.2 kg of ephedrine, also disguised as jaggery, in 4 packages. The consignor is an individual living in Quang Nam Province whilst the consignee again lives in Australia.
