Mr Nguyen Phuoc Cu, who lives at 194 Hung Vuong Street in Da Nang, has the biggest personal collection of bicycles in the city.

His passion for bikes began in the 1980s, but it was not until 2000 that he bought 3 Japanese-made bicycles.  In 2008, he and his wife travelled to the USA and, during his visit, he spent much of his time in bicycle shops.  He eventually bought a Specialized Transition Pro bike worth 7,000 USD which featured a modern timing device, and some accessories including clothing, shoes and a helmet.

Mr Cu said that he is always keen to buy the latest models of bicycles as soon as they go on sale, no matter what the cost.  As a result, he now possesses dozens of bikes of famous brands such as Torell, Specialized and Trek.  Most notably, his collection features a CSK Volvo 8 bike which is now the only one in the central region, and he has a Tirreno Razza 3000 which was produced in 2007.

The bicycle collector is now the Deputy Head of the Da Nang Bicycle Club.  Over the past 20 years, Mr Cu has made a significant contribution to promoting cycling in the city.  He has provided financial assistance to the club as well as helped some of the club members to enter cycle races in Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, Vinh and Dong Hoi and elsewhere in the country.  Since 2008, his club has run annual races including the Da Nang Open Cycling Tour, the tour to conquer the Son Tra Peninsula, and races along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street.  Currently, Mr Cu and other local cyclists are busy preparing for a race over the Hai Van Pass on 31 August.

Mr Cu added that he had made friends with 2 people from the USA via Facebook, and that these people have supplied him with American-made racing bicycles.  He is now selling these on to club members and other enthusiasts at up to 40% below their normal price.  He wants to become a distributor of high-quality, eye-catching racing bicycles at reasonable prices.
