A meeting took place in the city on Wednesday afternoon to discuss proactive measures to control and prevent any Ebola outbreak in Da Nang.  The event was attended by the municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, along with representatives from the Da Nang International Airport, the departments of Health and Customs, and the Da Nang Port.

At the event, Vice Chairman Tho approved the immediate purchase of 2 super-dialysis machines, 2 extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) systems, and a thermal imaging camera in order to avert any outbreak of the Ebola virus.

The city leader also urged the local relevant agencies to increase their checks and tighten the inspection of foreign tourists arriving in Da Nang through its 2 border gates.

According to the city's Centre for International Health Quarantine, Da Nang welcomes over 1,000 foreign tourists every day.  Over the past ten days, 15,321 foreign visitors have arrived at the airport, with 139 more at the port.  However, the centre is now facing difficulties inspecting and screening the foreign travellers arriving because there is only one modern thermal imaging camera at the centre to measure body temperatures.

To date, none of the tourists arriving in the city have been required to fill in medical declarations because none of them have travelled through countries affected by the Ebola outbreak within the previous 21 days.  Even so, the city’s inspectors have to work around the clock at the 2 border gates in order to promptly detect anyone suspected of carrying the Ebola disease.
