Swedish funding assists waste management
The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, recently met with a group of representatives from Sweden’s Borås City, led by its international business development coordinator, Ms Nanna Siewertz Tulinius, to discuss waste management in the city.
An environmental project, funded by Sweden’s International Centre for Local Democracy, is being jointly implemented by Da Nang and Borås City at a cost of over 7.5 billion VND. The project is in 3 parts: garbage collection, classification, and its management strategies; medical waste treatment; and waste water management in Da Nang.

Between 2013 and 2014, the city authorities are implementing the 1st part of the project, with a focus on making feasible plans for local garbage collection and classification. In addition, special attention is being paid to appealing for more funds from organisations and individuals at home and abroad to implement other local environmental projects in the years ahead.
At the event, Ms Tulinius spoke highly of the positive results from the city’s garbage collection, especially the model adopted in Hai Chau District. She also suggested that the University of Da Nang should cooperate with the University of Borås to conduct research into biogas production technology. This will help the city to ensure sufficient clean energy supplies as well as transform organic waste into fertiliser.
