Water supplies cut again
The Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO) has announced a water supply cut of 80% for the D1200 water pipe system in some parts of the city. From midnight to 23.00pm today, 19 August, the districts of Son Tra, Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Ngu Hanh Son, and Cam Le will have little or no water, whilst water supplies are running normally in Lien Chieu District and the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park.
During the evenings of 16 and 17 August, the upper sections of the Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers in Quang Nam Province recorded a maximum rainfall of 59mm. In addition, the A Vuong and Dak Mi 4 hydropower plants in Quang Nam Province have been discharging, respectively, about 66m3 and 20m3 of water per second into the province’s Yen River over recent days. As a result, the water level in the city’s An Trach Dam has increased significantly to 2.4m. This has helped to push the salinity out of the Red Bridge River which has been suffering from severe salt-water contamination. The salinity was low, at the threshold of 300 mg/l, from midnight of 17 August to dawn the next day.
