Anti-corruption leader Nguyen Ba Thanh recovers with US treatment
The health of Nguyen Ba Thanh, the Chief of the Central Internal Affairs Commission of Viet Nam and former Party Secretary of Da Nang City, is improving during his medical treatment in the United States, a source said.
Thanh is currently also deputy head of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption, led by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Thanh remains in contact with his Ha Noi office for official matters, and is expected to return from the US to resume work soon, a source told Tuoi Tre by phone on Thursday.

According to the source, Thanh is receiving treatment at a health center in the US, and his overseas treatment has been approved by the local government.
On August 29, Nguyen Ba Canh, Thanh’s son, confirmed that his father was seeking medical care in the US.
“My father was granted a leave. He has been in the US for nearly two weeks for treatment,” Canh said.
Nguyen Ba Thanh, 61, was born in Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City. He is the former director of the Quang Nam-Da Nang Agriculture Department, as well as the former Chairman of the Da Nang Municipal People’s Committee.
Thanh is credited with transforming Da Nang from a poor area into the most beautiful city in Viet Nam. For many, it is the most livable city in the country.
Loved by city residents, Thanh is famous for his tough stance on corruption, especially among traffic police, and is said to always deliver what he promises.
