Da Nang International Airport faces overload
On Wednesday afternoon, the Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, paid an inspection visit to some of the waiting areas at the Da Nang International Airport.
He concluded that the immigration area, where entry procedures for international arrivees are conducted, is too small. When 3 or 4 international flights arrive at about the same time, the 700 or so passengers have to queue for a long time to be dealt with. The main reason seems to be that there are only 5 entry gates, and sometimes not all of them are operating. There are also now too few airbridges between the international part of the terminal and the aeroplanes, which can cause flight delays, and the departure lounge is overcrowded because it is too small.
Vice Chairman Tho asked the airport’s managers and the tourism sector to work closely with relevant agencies to increase the number of employees at the immigration desks, as well as install more airbridges. He promised that the city leaders will have discussions with the Vietnamese Ministries of Transportation and Defence about expanding the airport to better cater for the increasing numbers of international arrivals.
