At noon on Wednesday, fishing boat KH 96226 with 6 crew on board suffered an engine breakdown while they were fishing at latitude 11°42'N and longitude 110°09'E.  The boat began drifting at a speed of around 1.4 nautical miles per hour.

After receiving an SOS message from the boat, the Viet Nam Coastal Information Station asked other fishing boats operating nearby to help the crew members.  The boat was later towed back to the mainland by another boat.

Then, on Wednesday evening, 25-year-old fisherman Nguyen Van Hop was suffering from fever with vomiting and convulsions whilst he and his crewmates on BD 96926 were fishing at latitude 8°56'N and longitude 112°47'E.  They sent an SOS message to the Viet Nam Coastal Information Station, and the station helped the boat’s fishermen to contact doctors on the mainland for first aid instructions.  The next day, Mr Hop’s health had improved and he was brought back to the mainland by another fishing boat operating nearby for further treatment, whilst his own boat continued on its fishing trip.
