Marble Mountain carving destined for General Vo Nguyen Giap's gravesite
A ceremony took place on Wednesday at Da Nang’s 2 September Peace monument as a locally-carved stone plaque began its journey to the gravesite of the late General Vo Nguyen Giap at the Vung Chua-Yen Island area in Quang Binh Province.
The 1m x 1.5m x 0.6m piece of rock weighs over 1 tonne, and is carved with words translated as “A line of pine trees respectfully presented by the Viet Nam War Veterans’ Association”. The trees are being planted alongside an approach road to the grave, and the plaque will be placed at the beginning of the line of trees to mark the 1st death anniversary of the legendary general on 4 October.
