The Director of the Da Nang General Hospital, Dr Tran Ngoc Thanh, said that his hospital is facing patient overload.  His 1,100-bed hospital has already provided an extra 739 patient beds in order to meet the increasing patient numbers from the city and neighbouring localities, 53% more than the official bed capacity.

So far this year, the hospital has given medical examinations and treatment to over 52,000 inpatients, about 15,600 of whom came from neighbouring localities.

As a result of the growing demand, the hospital is asking for permission from the municipal authorities to upgrade and extend its existing facilities to solve the overload problem.  In addition, a focus will be on shortening the stay period of patients through requiring patients to be admitted to the hospital only one or two days before their operations.  Special attention is being paid to using advanced technology to diagnose and treat patients, especially those suffering from chronic diseases.

During his recent meeting with the hospital’s leaders, the Chairman of the municipal People’s Council, Mr Tran Tho, stressed the need for the hospital to work closely with local relevant agencies to expedite the construction of the new Emergency and Recovery Department in order to receive more patients.  Top priority should be given to accelerating administrative reforms, simplifying procedures for accepting patients, and shortening the time for conducting tests and diagnosing diseases by using advanced medical equipment.
