New Administration Centre - a lighthouse facing the East Sea
The Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee of Viet Nam and former Party Secretary of Da Nang, Mr Nguyen Ba Thanh, has been a devoted chief architect of some of the city’s key projects, including the newly completed Administration Centre.
After assessing the first draft plan for the Administration Centre project, presented by Korea’s Mooyoung Architects and Engineers Company, Mr Thanh remarked that the design implied modernisation, but it did not reflect the national cultural identity.

The company’s second design was nearly the same as that of the current centre, but its dome was in the shape of a traditional conical hat. Mr Thanh praised the company’s architects for their design which imbued national cultural identity, but he asked that the final design should also reflect the city's progress in industrialisation, modernisation and international integration.
Based on Mr Thanh’s suggestions, the Korean architects then created their final design which featured the shape of a lighthouse on a ship facing towards the East Sea. Thanks to its aesthetic, special and creative characteristics, this design was approved by the city’s leader on 1 March 2007.
The new Administration Centre is a new symbol of Da Nang - a young and dynamic city.
