Addressing a meeting on Tuesday to review Da Nang’s socio-economic performance over the past 8 months, the Secretary of the municipal Party Committee (PC), Mr Tran Tho, asked local relevant agencies to attach importance to effectively implementing the city’s “Year for Business 2014” programme.

According to a report released by the municipal PC Office, the city saw a reasonable growth during the review period.  The total value of retail sales of goods and services reached nearly 73% of the year’s target, whilst the total export turnover of goods was 62%.  Over the period, the city welcomed 2.71 million tourists and earned over 7 trillion VND from tourism.  As of 4 September, the city’s total budget collections had hit over 8.1 trillion VND, fulfilling nearly 70% of the year’s target.

Secretary Tho stressed the need for the city authorities to exceed the total budget collection targets by about 10% this year.  He also remarked that top priority must be given to ensuring sufficient capital for the Hue T-junction overpass project, as well as compensating the families affected by the project.  In addition, every effort should be made to complete the construction of the north-west traffic axis along with the upgrades of Nguyen Duy Trinh, Huyen Tran Cong Chua and Nguyen Cong Hoan streets.  The city leader also took the opportunity to urge local relevant agencies to begin the upgrade of the city’s General Science Library next month.  The nearly 40 billion VND project aims to mark the 21st Congress of the city’s PC.

Meanwhile, the city’s People’s Committee will work closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs to split Hoa Vang District into 2 separate districts as soon as possible.  Moreover, a focus will be on appealing for financial donations for the 2015 Da Nang International Fireworks Competition, as well as making preparations for a musical programme to mark next year’s 40th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang.

As for the upgrade the 29 March Park in Thanh Khe District, Secretary Tho noted that the emphasis will be on ensuring that the park will become a popular public entertainment area featuring beautiful landscapes.
