Fine Arts Museum needs more objects to display
Approval has been given by the Da Nang authorities to create a Fine Arts Museum by upgrading the existing Centre of Cultural Heritage Management at 78 Le Duan Street. The upgrade will cost about 30 billion VND which will come from the city’s budget. This year, the museum has been given 300 million VND for collecting objects to display, and in 2015 another 5.5 billion VND is expected to be allocated to the museum.
The new museum is intended to be open by the beginning of October 2015, and about 600 artifacts will be needed to fill up the display areas. However, to date only 193 fine arts works have been donated to the museum and many more are needed. In detail, 148 are sketch paintings and posters on the revolutionary war by the late painter Nguyen Duc Hanh, 11 have been selected from the recent 2014 Da Nang Oil Painting Camp, 7 are modern works of art donated by local painters, and 27 are prize-winning paintings created by children at local contests.

In an attempt to help the museum to resolve their problem, the Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, recently urged the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to speed up the collection of artifacts for the museum. Mr Tho also stressed the need to ask the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) to lend the new museum some high-quality artifacts which have been created by members of the Central Fine Arts Association, and those of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition of MCST.
