The Da Nang Traffic Safety Committee is launching a traffic safety campaign which will run during the forthcoming Tet Festival, the liberation of Da Nang (29 March), the National Reunification Day (30 April), and International Labour Day (1 May).  The purpose is to ensure the city’s traffic order and safety over these public holiday periods.

The focus will be on raising public awareness of traffic safety, as well as increasing patrols and checks on local streets.  Strict penalties will be imposed on drink-drivers, and those who run through red lights, weave between moving vehicles or zigzag through traffic, exceed the speed limit, or violate the regulations on parking or picking up and dropping off passengers during peak days.

The municipal Department of Transport is taking effective measures to deal with overloaded vehicles.  They will work closely with local traffic police to impose fines for carrying more passengers than legally allowed.  The Department of Construction is taking responsibility for replacing damaged street lights and trimming roadside trees in order to ensure optimum visibility for road-users.
