During a meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss the implementation of Da Nang’s “Year for Culture and Urban Civilisation” programme, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, stressed the need for local relevant agencies to raise public awareness of this programme.

A focus will be on improving the quality of cultural and arts activities, and on building more cultural works.  Heed will be paid to ensuring social order, security, traffic safety and environmental hygiene, along with building a cultural and civilised urban lifestyle.

Importance will be attached to resolving the problems of illegal leaflet distribution and advertisements on power poles and walls which have adversely affected the aesthetics of the local urban landscape.  Special attention will also be paid to stopping the harassment of tourists and ensuring that no itinerant beggars are on local streets.

Hai Chau and Thanh Khe districts have been selected as municipal-level pilot models for implementing the programme.  About 3 wards and communes, and some major streets, in each of the 2 districts will be chosen to run a trial.
