On Thursday, the Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, and other city leaders informally met with over 400 overseas Vietnamese who have returned to the city to celebrate Tet with their extended families.

Chairman Tho praised them for their significant contributions to the city’s progress.  Most notably, overseas Vietnamese people across the world, including many from Da Nang, strongly protested against China’s illegal placement of the HD-981 oil drilling rig in Viet Nam’s territory waters last year.  By voicing their objections, they had proved their strong determination to safeguard Viet Nam’s legitimate sovereignty over its sea and islands.

Also at the meeting, the city leader briefed the participants on the country’s open mechanisms and the city’s incentive policies for attracting more foreign investment flows during this year.  He took the opportunity to appeal for more overseas Vietnamese to invest in the city, and he requested that they publicise the attractive local investment climate to other Vietnamese ex-pats and potential foreign investors.

On behalf of the invited guests, Prof Dr Le Van Hoa, who is residing in the USA, remarked that he and other overseas Vietnamese are absolutely delighted at the country’s remarkable achievements during its renewal process and the city’s rapid growth over recent years.  He affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese would continue their efforts for the city’s progress and maintain an active involvement in protecting the country’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.

In the evening of the same day, a party was organised to celebrate the upcoming Tet Festival.
