On Wednesday morning, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Tran Tho visited and extended his best wishes to the staff of the Da Nang General Hospital on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Vietnamese Physicians’ Day (27 February).

Secretary Tho highly praised the hospital’s staff for their remarkable achievements in improving the quality of healthcare services and extending the lifespan of local residents, and those from elsewhere in the central region, over recent years.

Last year, the hospital exceeded most of its targets and its doctors successfully carried out several new types of advanced surgical techniques.  These included the placement of a wire frame of stent grafts inside and outside a swollen blood vessel in order to prevent it from bursting, and a cardiovascular intervention on a 15-day-old baby with congenital heart disease.

Most notably, the use of a positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) imaging system and cyclotron-produced radioisotopes at the hospital has improved the efficiency of the diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular and neurological diseases.

The hospital’s doctors treated around 2,100 patients over the Tet holidays.

Secretary Tho remarked that the hospital is the city’s leading healthcare service and a reliable medical treatment provider for patients from the whole of central region.

In particular, the city’s leader took the opportunity to express his sincere gratitude to the hospital’s staff for their great efforts in providing the best possible treatment for former city leader Nguyen Ba Thanh, who passed away on 13 February.

He urged the hospital and local relevant agencies to start the construction of a new cardiovascular centre at the hospital in April.
