Jam makers working hard for Tet
Traditional ginger, coconut and turmeric jams made by family-owned establishments in Da Nang are among the favourite Tet foods of local residents, despite the abundance of packaged confectionary products in the local markets.
In these days leading up to Tet, the local jam makers are now very busy making their products in time for the festival. In particular, they are always aware of the need to ensure the quality, safety and hygiene of their food products to maintain a healthy Tet Festival.

The owner of a ginger jam-making establishment on Hoang Dieu Street said that jam making is her family’s traditional business. She remarked that over 50kg of ginger jam are made every day in these days leading up to Tet, nearly double the volume produced on normal days. Her products will be sold to traders in the Han and Con markets, the many stores selling Tet foods on Hoang Dieu Street, and her regular customers.
The price of ginger jam bought at the manufacturing establishment is currently 90,000 VND per kg, but in the local markets the price could be between 5,000VND and 10,000VND higher.
A local turmeric jam maker on Tran Cao Van Street said that she has maintained her family’s traditional craft for over 20 years. Her family members usually gather together to make the jam and joyfully chat with each other, which helps to build and strengthen their individual relationships. Her family-made turmeric jam is now priced at 80,000 VND per kg.
The owner of a coconut jam-making establishment in Hai Chau District, Mrs Nguyen Thi Phuong, said that her products have won the trust of local consumers over recent years because of their unique and delicious tastes.
In reality, local jam makers have actively contributed to preserving this traditional craft. Their products are indispensible Tet foods in every local household which helps to make the festival cozier and happier.
