Numerous charitable activities to help the poor celebrate Tet
Over recent days, the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee has launched numerous charitable programmes to help local poor people celebrate Tet. There has been active involvement by the city’s Party organisations, local authorities, departments, religious organisations, businesses and other generous donors.
A programme entitled “Spring of Love” on 6 February is a typical example. Organised by the Committee and the city's branch of the State Bank of Viet Nam, the event raised over 800 million VND from local commercial banks, businesses and individuals. The donated money went to buy Tet gifts for about 4,000 poor families to help them enjoy a warm and happy Tet.
In addition, government employees and some residents in Hai Phong City recently donated 1 billion VND to Da Nang’s fishermen and those involved in protecting the Hoang Sa fishing grounds. The money was spend on buying Tet gifts for local marine militia and border guard forces, plus fishermen in Thanh Khe, Son Tra and Lien Chieu districts.
A further 1.2 billion VND came from from the city’s Fund for the Poor and was spent on building new houses and repairing degraded ones for 58 ethnic families in Hoa Vang District.
