Quang Nam Province's Hoi An City will stop selling tickets for entrance to its old town and close a walking street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles between February 13 and 21, according to the local Centre for Culture and Sports.

The centre said on Wednesday that it will not sell entrance tickets to visitors to Hoi An Ancient Town from February 18 to 21 (Lunar New Year’s Eve to the third day of the Lunar New Year).

The Lunar New Year, or Tet in Vietnamese, will kick off on February 19, with festivities lasting for about one week.

Hoi An also started shutting down a walking street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles in the ancient town on Friday and will re-open it on February 22.

Vo Phung, director of the Hoi An Centre for Culture and Sports, said the city has held many programs to celebrate the Tet holiday, including flower markets and flower streets on Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Hue, and Hoang Dieu Streets.

A ceremony to begin Tet celebrations will take place at 10:00 pm on Lunar New Year’s Day at the square along the Hoai River.

A fireworks display will also be held at the An Hoi statue garden on Nguyen Phuc Chu Street on Lunar New Year’s Eve.

From the first to the sixth of the Lunar New Year, a series of activities under the theme of Tet will be organized, including calligraphy festivals, music shows, plant-growing events, and boat racing.
