During his meeting on Tuesday with representatives from the Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations, municipal Party Committee Secretary Tran Tho highly praised the Union for encouraging intellectuals involved in the science and technology sector to make significant contributions to the city’s progress.

However, Secretary Tho noted that the Union has yet to take the initiative in bringing scientific and technological innovations to fruition, or to become actively involved in contributing its opinions concerning social issues.

He asked the Union to do its utmost to enhance its operations and make more suggestions to the city’s leaders about local development strategies and plans.  In addition, he stressed the need for the Union to promote the implementation of a movement to promote scientific and technological applications in local production activities.

Over the next 5 years, the focus will be on promoting highly-applicable scientific research and developing the Union into a strong political and social organisation which will play a vital role in encouraging local scientific and technological intellectuals to enhance their creativity.  Special attention will be also paid to turning the city’s science and technology sector into a key driving force for promoting the city’s socio-economic development.  This will significantly contribute to building Da Nang into a civilised and modern city with sustainable development.

The city’s Union of Science and Technology Associations now has 32 member associations, 16 affiliated centres, and over 12,000 members including more than 1,000 professors, associate professors and doctors.
