Doctors from the Da Nang General Hospital have successfully saved the life of 40-year-old Doan Bay from Quang Nam Province’s Duy Xuyen District. He had seriously injured his neck on the sharp remains of a broken beer bottle.

Earlier, the patient had been admitted to the hospital in a very critical condition with severe blood loss due to a complicated injury in his neck, along with lesions in his oesophagus and thyroid cartilage.  In particular, his left carotid artery and left jugular vein were nearly severed.

The doctors successfully performed emergency surgery on the artery and the vein, and dealt with the lesions in his oesophagus and thyroid cartilage.  In total, eight units of blood were infused into him.

Mr Bay is now gradually recovering.  He is able to talk normally and has resumed physical movements.
