32,248 units of blood collected last year
The launch ceremony for the 2015 Voluntary Blood Donation Day (7 April) took place in Da Nang on Monday. Organised by the municipal Red Cross Association, the event also honoured local groups and individuals for their active involvement in voluntary blood donation campaigns over the past year.
Last year, 32,248 units of blood were collected from local residents, an increase of 2,221 units compared with the previous year and surpassing the year’s target by 15%. The volume of blood donated met 99.2% of the demand from local hospitals for blood to used in emergencies and treatment.
In particular, 1,120 units of the donated blood were collected from donors who were willing to give their blood at any time if hospitals were in desperate need, which helped to save many lives in very critical cases.
Apart from the significant blood donations from local students and young people, staff members of local businesses and religious organisations together donated about 4,000 units of blood. They included the Middle Airports Corporation, the Ba Na Hills Resort, FPT Software Da Nang, the city’s branch of Dong A Bank, and the municipal Buddhist Sangha.
