At 3am on 11 April, fishing boat BD1071 TS from Binh Dinh Province, with a crew of 5 onboard, suffered engine failure whilst fishing at latitude 16°07'N and longitude 108°48'E, about 32 nautical miles east of the Da Nang coast.

The ship began drifting and at the time faced strong winds of levels 6 and 7, waves up to 3m high and rough seas.  The crew members panicked because there were no vessels operating nearby to help their boat in distress.

After receiving an SOS message from the boat, the Zone II Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Da Nang MRCC) immediately sent out rescue ship SAR 274 to help the victims.

By 12 noon the same day, the rescue ship reached the fishing boat which was then at latitude 16°04'N and longitude 108°51'E.

By 7.45pm, the fishing boat has been successfully towed back to the mainland, and all the crew members are now safe and in good health.
