Kidney transplant performed successful
A kidney transplant was successfully performed on a 44-year-old woman from Hai Chau District at the Da Nang General Hospital last Friday. This was the 3rd operation of its kind to have been conducted at the hospital since 2006.
The surgery was performed by the hospital’s doctors with the help of some surgeons from Hue Central Hospital headed by its Director Prof Dr Bui Duc Phu.
The operation in progress |
Earlier, the patient had been diagnosed with end-stage renal failure, and she had been treated at the Da Nang General Hospital for 6 years. The kidney donor was her older sister.
The patient is now recovering well from the operation, and her blood sugar levels and urination are back to normal.
Da Nang is now seeing a relatively high demand for kidney transplants. Over 250 patients with renal failure are undergoing periodic haemodialyses at the Nephrology-Endocrinilogy Department of the Da Nang General Hospital. Meanwhile, another 100 are undergoing peritoneal dialyses.
The hospital has been recognised by the Ministry of Health as one of Viet Nam’s medical establishments performing kidney transplants with the help of surgeons from the Hue Central Hospital.
