Local beaches expected to be completely cleared of debris today
The recent unusual flash floods in Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue provinces has resulted in a rapid rise in the water levels of local rivers. As a result, a large volume of domestic waste, duckweed, rotten wood and grass has floated down the rivers to their river mouths and out into the open sea.
According to the Da Nang Urban Environment Company, since the evening of 28 March a large amount of such debris has been washed onto the local seashore, especially along the eastern sea coast of the city. As a result, the sporting and swimming activities of local residents and visitors at many local popular beaches like Sao Bien, T18, T20 and My Khe have been badly affected.

On Tuesday morning, a number of workers from the company began collecting up the waste from Man Thai Beach in Son Tra District. Duckweed and rotten wood had accumulated, burying the underlying beach to a depth of over 0.3m.
Apart from the sanitation workers on duty at the local beaches, the company has used its white collar workers and workers from other local companies to do the work. On Monday alone, there were over 450 people clearing up the local beaches.
The beaches are expected to be completely cleared up by the end of today (1 April).
