Dr Roberto De Castro from Italy performed free genital organ regeneration surgery on 7 children with genital defects from across the central region at the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital between 8 and 10 May. 

In addition, the doctor carried out free screening tests for dozens of other children with a genital deformities in order to select some for next round of surgery.

The programme was funded by the Asian Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation which is offering humanitarian surgery for children with genital deformities worldwide.

Dr Roberto has successfully performed genital organ regeneration surgery on many children who have congenital or accidental genital malformations.  One of them was Phung Thien Nhan, a young boy with genital problems, who had been abandoned by his birth-mother and was then attacked by wild animals which chewed off his right leg and badly savaged his genitals.
