On Monday morning, doctors from the Da Nang General Hospital promptly carried out the venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) technique to save the life of a 23-year-old man from Quang Nam Province’s Dai Loc District.  The patient had been admitted to the hospital with myocardial inflammation and cardiac arrest.  He remains under treatment at the hospital.

Earlier, on 14 April, a 17-year-old teenager from the same province's Dien Ban District had been rushed to the hospital in a deep coma and with hypotension.  The patient was promptly put on a ventilator, and he also received super dialysis and antibiotic treatment.

With the help of a chest X-ray, doctors detected that the patient’s lungs were severely damaged and his blood oxygenation level was low.  He tested positive for influenza AH3-pneumonia superinfection with the added complications of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).  In attempting to save his life, the doctors successfully performed a VA-ECMO operation on him.

After receiving the VA-ECMO treatment for 7 days, endoscopic surgery and intensive care, the patient has able to be taken off the ventilator.  His lung function is now improving considerably, and he is able to eat and drink normally.  He is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next few days.
