At around 8.10am on Friday, a fire broke out in a truck whilst it was passing through the Hai Van Tunnel in Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District.  The vehicle was en route from Thua Thien Hue Province to Da Nang.

The driver of the truck, 23-year-old Tran Van Hung, spotted a fire through his rear-view mirror coming from a mud flap under the cabin.  He and his assistants quickly used portable fire extinguishers and blankets from the vehicle to try to stamp out the blaze.

Two fire engines and 14 firefighters from the city’s Division of Fire Fighting and Prevention No 4 quickly arrived on scene, and the Hai Van Tunnel Management and Operation Joint Stock Company (Hamadeco) sent its rescue vehicles to help.  

Thanks to the great efforts of the firefighters, the blaze was completely extinguished within 5 minutes, and 20 minutes later the traffic congestion caused by the incident was completely cleared.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
