Keeping careful watch for MERS-CoV
South Korea and China recently declared themselves effectively out of danger from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). However, Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, is still maintaining high vigilance against the dangerous epidemic.
Currently, passengers arriving in the city are still being required to complete a medical declaration and have their body temperature checked at the Da Nang International Airport and the Da Nang Port. The aim is to promptly detect anyone suspected of carrying the disease.
Any suspected MERS-CoV air and cruise ship passengers have been put under supervision in accordance with the regulations of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health. The processes involved are blood sampling, epidemiological investigations, clinical examinations and isolation.
Since June, a total of 7 MERS-CoV suspect adults and children have been identified by measuring their body temperatures at the airport and port. They were isolated at the city’s General Hospital and the local Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital, whilst their blood samples were sent to Nha Trang's Pasteur Institute for tests. Thankfully their blood samples all tested negative for the deadly disease.
