Police officers from the Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Da Nang Police Department are temporarily detaining 33-year-old Le Quang Hoa from Cam Le District’s Hoa Xuan Ward for illegally trafficking drugs.

At the beginning of July, a unit from the Department had investigated and suspected Hoa of being involved in a large-scale, inter-provincial drugs ring which was smuggling a large volume of drugs from the northern region into the city.

The drugs hidden in the box

At around 3.00pm on 21 August, whilst Hoa was receiving a styrofoam cooler box from a passenger coach on Lien Chieu District’s Nguyen Luong Bang Street, he was apprehended by the police officers.  The vehicle was en route from Hai Phong City to Da Nang.

Over 1kg of synthetic drugs, a flick-knife, a tear gas sprayer, a motorcycle, a cellphone and one million VND in cash were seized.  The drugs had been cleverly hidden in the box which also contained ‘mam tom’ (shrimp paste) and ‘ruoc kho’ (dried shrimp).
