The Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Dang Viet Dung, recently chaired a meeting to check the preparations for the 2015 - 2016 Clipper Round the World Race which will start in London on 30 August and will stop off at Da Nang in February.

The city authorities have already approved the design for the Da Nang-Viet Nam team’s racing yacht, and it has been sent to the UK.  Crew members’ outfits are being designed and made by the Viet Art and Indochina Sun companies, and will be issued to the team members before the race begins.

Apart from domestic and foreign media, tourism promotion programmes for the biennial race will be held in Sydney (Australia), the UK and the USA.

The Da Nang Port Company has developed detailed plans for the arrival and departure of the racing yachts, and the local tourism sector will prepare to accommodate the participating international athletes and press reporters during their stay in the city.

The Clipper Race fleet is expected to arrive in Da Nang on 17 February 2016.  During their 10-day stay in the city, the visitors will have the opportunity to participate in various arts and support programmes in order to help them understand more about the culture and people of Da Nang.

However, Vice Chairman Dung asked local relevant agencies to discuss with the race organisers whether the Clipper Race fleet could arrive in Da Nang earlier than scheduled to coincide with the 2016 Lunar New Year which will fall on 8 February 2016.  He remarked that this would create a great opportunity for the over 700 crew members from more than 40 countries worldwide to experience the traditional Vietnamese Tet Festival in Da Nang.
