Red Bridge River again affected by severe salinity
Published: August 25, 2015
Since 21 August, Da Nang’s Red Bridge River has been suffering from severe salt-water contamination. The main cause is that the hydropower plants of A Vuong, Song Bung 4 and Dak Mi 4 have reduced their discharge of water into the river’s lower sections.
At 7am on Monday, the water level in Quang Nam Province’s Vu Gia River was low at just 2.32m, which resulted in an increase in the salinity of the Red Bridge River.
The Da Nang Water Supply Company is keeping a close eye on the situation. In addition, the An Trach Pumping Station is now operating at full capacity to provide water for the city’s Red Bridge and international airport water supply plants to ensure sufficient water supplies for local consumers.
