Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung recently monitored the trial installation of a digital clock at the roundabout of Ngo Quyen and Pham Van Dong street which will count down to the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG 5).  The event will take place in the city next year from 24 September to 3 October.

The design and installation of the clock, at a cost of around 600 million VND, has been totally funded by the city’s Holiday Beach Danang Hotel & Resort.

The total length of the digits, which indicate the days, hours, minutes and seconds left to go, is about 21m, with each of the digits being 2.2 m high.  The symbol of the city’s Marble Mountains is arranged behind the digits.  The name of ABG 5 in both Vietnamese and English, and its official logo and mascot which features a salangane, a typical bird of the southern central coast, are all placed above the digits.  The clock is installed at an angle which ensures visibility for road-users.

Vice Chairman Dung asked for the official installation of the clock to be completed no later than 20 September this year, and the countdown will be officially started 4 days later to mark one year before the games begin.
