Hoang Nguyen An, 27, returned to Viet Nam in early 2014 after three years of working in Japan to earn capital for his startup. The young boss successfully introduced his frankincense jewelry to international friends at an exhibition held in Singapore this year.

An’s business was selected to join the Singapore Fair 2015 by the Investment Promotion and Business Support Board of Quang Nam Province, his home area in central Viet Nam.

Most of the products showcased at the fair are frankincense handicrafts, of which An said jewelry made of frankincense and gold is the most outstanding item.

An has so far created nearly 30 products with different shapes and models such as circles, diamonds and square beads, and he even designed the patterns carved on gold and frankincense-made beads.

Besides capital, another concern of this 27-year-old man is workers, as there are not many qualified local jewelers. This affects the business’s productivity.

An’s only strength is that his family’s business allows him to have an abundant source of frankincense ingredients and workers to produce frankincense beads.

He currently makes low-price products at an average price of VND2 million ($100) to lure more customers, even children.
