At 1.38pm on Monday, a serious collision involving 4 vehicles occurred inside the Hai Van Tunnel in Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District, slightly injuring 12 people.

At the time, a 16-seater minibus, a 7-seater car and a refrigerated vehicle, all en route from Thua Thien-Hue Province to Da Nang, were running bumper-to-bumper at a slow speed due to a roadblock sign inside the tunnel.  Suddenly, the driver of a dumper truck travelling in the same direction lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the minibus from the rear, which in turn forcefully rear-ended the car and the refrigerated vehicle.

Twelve passengers on the minibus were slightly injured in the collision.  The minibus and the car were seriously damaged, whilst the cabin of the truck was also destroyed.

The crash resulted in nearly 30-minutes of traffic congestion inside the tunnel.

The full cause of the accident is still under investigation.
